Top Ten Organisers: FIBC The National Top-Ten Bowls Competition started in 2000/2001 in Darlington. The competition was run by the Darlington Indoor Bowls Club for the next 4 years. After the 2004 finals they were unable to continue to organise the national competiton and host the final. As a consequence Folkestone Indoor Bowls Club stepped in, organsied and hosted the 2004/2005 competition. This continues to the present day.
The competition is organised by a dedicated team. Between them they organise, collate, manage and run the competition and the finals weekend itself on Easter weekend in April. The finals weekend (a four day programme) consists of 14 teams that have qualified from across the country from their respective localised groups. Folkestone Indoor Bowls Club (FIBC) is the biggest indoor bowls club in the Shepway and Dover area catering for over 700 members during the winter months. Situated in Folkestone, it is ideally positioned just off the M20. Folkestone IBC first opened its doors in 1965. In 1983 Folkestone IBC became the first club to host televised bowls in the UK with the "Triple Crown Classic". Tne event was hosted in conjunction with the EIBA, Ushers Brewery and featured a very young Andy Thompson as well as a seasoned David Bryant. |
